The CYGNO Experiment

The search for a novel technology able to detect and reconstruct nuclear electron recoil events with the energy of few keV has become more important now that large regions high-mass dark matter (DM) candidates have been excluded. Moreover, detector sensitive incoming particle direction will be crucial in case DM discovery open possibility studying its properties. Gaseous time projection chambers (TPC) optical readout are very promising detectors combining detailed event information provided by TPC technique high sensitivity granularity latest-generation scientific light sensors. CYGNO experiment (a CYGNus module Optical readout) aims exploit approach multiple-GEM structures volume TPCs study rare as interactions low-mass or solar neutrinos. combined use high-granularity sCMOS cameras fast sensors allows reconstruction 3D tracks, offering good resolution range, together identification useful distinguishing recoils from electronic recoils. This is part CYGNUS proto-collaboration, which at constructing network underground observatories directional search. A one cubic meter demonstrator expected built 2022/23 aiming larger scale apparatus (30 m3–100 m3) later stage.
